22" LCD TV - Buying Considerations

  • Budget. You can often buy 22” LCD TVs for $500 or less, thanks to improving technology and price drops over the last couple years.
  • Screen Shape. Widescreen televisions are 16:9 (the screen is 16 inches wide for every 9 inches of height), while the traditional shape is 4:3.
  • Additional 22 inch LCD TV Features. There are a few important topics to keep in mind, and you’ll obviously pay more when you select the higher end options.
  • Picture in picture (PIP). I don’t advocate spending the extra money to get the PIP feature when I’m buying a relatively small TV, like the 22” LCD TV.

  • Sound Quality. Most new 22” LCD TVs in 2009 include stereo sound. We recommend you buy your model with 5+ watts per channel, as listed in the specification sheet of the television.
  • Universal Remote Control. Some of the 22 inch LCD TV models include a universal remote control in the box. This allows you to operate the TV, plus other gadgets, like the DVD player, satellite or cable box, etc.

  • Response Time. You want a low response time with your 22” LCD TV; this is an indicator or the amount of time required for an image to go back and forth from black to to white to black.
  • 1080p vs 720p Resolution. We typically suggest that 720p is adequate for the average user. Only in the cases of high end graphics work, or perhaps video editing, would we suggest the more expensive 1080p.

That covers many of the shopping considerations for your 22” LCD TV purchase. We highlighted some fantastic 22 inch LCD TV alternatives from Samsung, Toshiba and Sharp at the top of the page, in association with Amazon. Go get that new TV!
